Powering Columbia County's Future with Family Wage Jobs

 Columbia County has a once in a generation opportunity to shape our economic future. As we plan for new industrial development, we must be thoughtful stewards of our land, infrastructure, transportation network, and electrical capacity. These resources are finite, and every major project should deliver the greatest possible benefit to our communities.

My priority is simple: I want to see investments that create the greatest number of family wage jobs, strengthen local businesses, expand our tax base, and provide lasting opportunities for future generations. When we dedicate significant public infrastructure and utility capacity to a project, the return should be measured not only in dollars invested, but in careers created, local suppliers supported, and long term economic growth.

Just as we work to attract new investment, we must also recognize that our existing businesses are the backbone of Columbia County’s economy. Supporting and retaining the employers already here is essential. These businesses provide stable jobs, reinvest in our community, and form the foundation of our local tax base. A strong economic development strategy must include helping current businesses grow, expand, and succeed right here at home.

 I do not support business development that consumes significant public resources such as land, infrastructure, water, or electrical capacity without providing a meaningful return in the form of family wage jobs and long term economic benefit. Our limited resources should not be tied up in projects that offer minimal employment or limited community value. Every major investment should earn its place by contributing to the strength and sustainability of Columbia County’s economy. 

Columbia County should actively recruit manufacturers, value added wood products, food processing, advanced technology, and other industries that put people to work, encourage innovation, and create opportunities for skilled trades and technical careers.

I support a business friendly county government that is responsive, predictable, and committed to finding solutions. At the same time, I believe we should be intentional about the types of projects we pursue favoring those that maximize employment, strengthen our communities, and make the best long-term use of our available infrastructure and energy resources.

The goal isn't simply to attract investment. The goal is to attract the right investment projects that create lasting prosperity, support working families, strengthen our existing businesses, and leave Columbia County stronger for generations to come.
